When Karla first met Deacon (Tara's Deacon) he was a four year old in training for the "A Circuit" Morgan shows in Saddleseat. Deacon was a handful and often in trouble. His ground manners were terrible. The owners of Deacon moved him to another trainer to let him try Western Pleasure, but he didn't care for that either. Deacon was sold to a very kind woman as her first horse as an adult. Deacon is very smart and soon figured out how to avoid working by pushing all of her buttons.

Two years later, Karla was called to come take him. Deacon was fine with Karla and Patrick, although it was certainly tougher than with Karla's hand raised mares! The first month or two Deacon was so excited to be out of the box stall and in a 200 acre pasture, he forgot to eat and burned a ton of calories checking the entire pasture at least once a day. Fortunately, Deacon has finally quit the losing trend and begun gaining some weight.

Deacon has come a very long way. He no longer has an inverted neck, has developed muscles in his back end and is carrying himself properly and with balance.
Deacon should excel as a multi-day endurance mount. Deacon completed both his first and his second 50 mile endurance rides at the New Cuyama 3 day XP Ride. He is turning out to be quite competetive. Karla is very proud of her "Show Pony:"
